A clear guide to slab quality, cost, selection and buying with confidence
THE SHORT ANSWER
Statuario marble is a premium natural stone, so its price is usually higher than standard white marble. In India, the final cost is not determined by the name alone. A realistic quote depends on the slab's origin, whiteness, vein pattern, thickness, finish, size, availability, transport and the amount of fabrication required.
A useful way to compare quotes is to separate the material price from cutting, edge work, wastage, packing, freight, installation and taxes. Two slabs can look similar in a photograph but have very different usable area and visual continuity once they are laid out for a project.
1. WHAT SHAPES THE PRICE
The most valuable slabs generally have a clean, bright background, balanced grey veining and fewer distracting patches or repairs. Bold book-matched movement can command a premium when the design needs a strong feature wall or island. More moderate veining may be a sensible choice when the project needs consistency across several areas.
Thickness and finish also matter. A 20 mm polished slab, a 30 mm slab with a custom edge, and a honed or leathered finish should not be compared as though they are the same product. Large-format slabs can reduce joints, but they may increase handling, reinforcement, packing and installation costs.
Availability is another practical factor. A slab already inspected and available in Kishangarh can be priced differently from a special selection that needs sourcing, extra inspection or longer transport planning. Ask for the exact slab photographs or a video before making a decision.
| Grade | Background whiteness, vein character, consistency and visible quality. |
| Format | Slab dimensions, thickness, usable area and expected wastage. |
| Finish | Polished, honed or another finish, plus edge and surface work. |
| Logistics | Selection, packing, freight, handling, fabrication and installation. |
2. MATERIAL COST VS PROJECT COST
A price per square foot is only the starting point. Confirm whether the quote covers the selected slab, surface finish, GST, packing, delivery to your city, lifting, cutting, sink or hob cut-outs, polishing of edges, installation and wastage. For a book-matched wall or a veined island, layout approval should happen before cutting.
Wastage is not automatically a hidden charge. It can be a genuine result of matching veins, avoiding a flaw, allowing for cut-outs or keeping the grain in the intended direction. A good supplier should show how the slabs will be nested on the project drawing so you can understand the usable quantity.
3. BEFORE YOU PLACE AN ORDER
Start with the room and the design rather than choosing only by a low number. Share the application, approximate area, preferred finish, edge profile, city and project schedule. For floors, walls and countertops, the same stone can look different under daylight, warm lighting and large installed expanses.
Before confirming, request slab identification, dimensions, thickness, finish, quality notes, current photographs, delivery terms and a written validity period for the quote. Natural stone varies, so a responsible supplier will explain the variation instead of promising that every slab will be identical. This is especially important for premium Italian marble selected for a visible focal point.
Statuario marble is premium-priced, but there is no single fixed rate. The current quote depends on origin, slab grade, background, veining, thickness, finish, size, availability, freight, taxes, fabrication and installation. Ask for a quote against the exact slab rather than relying only on a generic online rate.
Whiteness, vein quality, slab size, thickness, finish, selection availability, wastage and project location all affect the cost. Custom fabrication such as book matching, mitred edges, cut-outs and installation is usually priced separately from the slab.
Italian Statuario is often priced at a premium because of its origin, rarity, selection quality and distinctive veining. The origin matters, but the individual slab and its usable quality matter just as much, so compare inspected slabs and specifications rather than labels alone.
Not always. Confirm whether the quote includes packing, freight, unloading, lifting, fabrication, edge polishing, cut-outs, adhesive, sealing, installation and taxes. A written breakup helps you compare suppliers fairly and prevents a low slab price from becoming a higher project cost later.
Order according to the approved cutting layout, not only the net measurement. Allowance may be needed for vein matching, cut-outs, edge details, defects and breakage. Your fabricator or supplier should confirm the slab count and expected wastage before cutting.
Share your application, approximate area, city, preferred finish, thickness, edge details and required date. Gangwal Stonex can then discuss available slabs, send current images or videos, explain the price breakup and guide you through selection from Kishangarh.
Share your area, application, finish and delivery city with the Gangwal Stonex team in Kishangarh. We can help you compare available slabs and understand the complete quote before you order.
